Update for Friday, October 2, 2009

---------------------------------------------------------

INTERESTED IN MORE “HOW TO” INVESTMENT INFO PLUS MY NOT ALWAYS POLITICALLY CORRECT RUMINATIONS ABOUT THE MARKET?

I have set up a blog to share my market analysis & insights -- and to sometimes blow off steam when something stupid (or brilliant) catches my eye. You can post comments and voice your opinion uncensored. Take a look:

http://thewallstreetbully.blogspot.com

This week's hot topics are:

1. "Rebounding From The Lows"

2. "The Worst ETF Of 2008"

3. "Back To “Normal” "

4. "Tips For TIPS"

5. "Sunday Musings: Whose Money Is It Anyway?"

6. "Sell Stops For Ultra ETFs"

This is another free service, so spread the word to your friends.

STAGGERING SOUTH

For the second straight week, the markets headed lower as the U.S. jobless rate hit the 9.8% level, and another 263,000 jobs were lost in September.

After another initial sell-off, buyers stepped in with the subsequent rebound touching the unchanged line, but the market drifted back into closing with only minor losses. It could have been worse but, for the week, the major averages gave back about 2%.

Our Trend Tacking Indexes (TTIs) slipped as well and are now positioned relative to their long-term trend lines as follows:

Domestic TTI: +7.43% International TTI: +12.53% Hedge TTI: +1.66%

Of concern is not only the question as to whether the economic recovery has started but will it have any legs. Today's dismal job report makes me wonder if a quick economic rebound is really on the horizon as Wall Street expects and has priced in. The continuous drop in the average weekly hours worked (33) does not support the theory that we are up and running and good times are within reach.

Earnings season starts next week, and we have to wait and see if already lowered expectations can be beat and what guidance companies are offering. Any bad surprises are sure to affect market direction, which means we will be prepared via our sell stops to exit any positions if necessary.

As a heads up, I will be traveling to Germany on October 11 to visit the few family members I have left. I am scheduled to return on October 26. As is the case every year, my laptop will be my trusty companion, and I will able to produce the weekly newsletter, respond to emails and execute any buy/sells as they become necessary. Due to the time difference, I will not be able to return phone calls.

If you need to talk with me prior to my departure, please do so next week; otherwise we'll have to communicate via email. I will continue to post to my blog whenever possible, but the timing maybe a little different than you are used to.

Have a good week.

Ulli...
