It’s 6:30 AM, and, for the past 30 minutes, I have been answering emails from various prospective clients all over the country. For the next couple of months, I will be working from my vacation home in Maui, before traveling to Germany and then returning to my office in Southern California.
The phone rings and it is Mike H. from Tennessee. We had some email communications a couple of days ago, and now he’s ready to make the change and become my client. He was referred to me by one of my newsletter subscribers, and has been reading my materials for only about a week.
After ending our conversation, I email him instructions as well as the IRA applications in PDF format. The email directs him to print and fill them out. His portfolio—about $730k—will be a nice addition to my stable of managed account clients.
Paul C., a prospect from Southern California, calls and asks if I have time to meet with him and his wife to discuss an IRA transfer. They’d be happy to make the hour-long trip to my office at my convenience. It’s now close to 9 AM and exercise is on my agenda. I head over to Kapalua for a tough tennis game in almost 90 degree heat. It’s a great workout and even though I am physically tired, I feel mentally very refreshed and ready to tackle whatever challenges await me.
After a quick dip in the home pool and a short break for lunch at my desk, it’s back to business. I spend the next few hours working on a variety of projects including preparation of my free weekly 30-page newsletter, “The No-Load Mutual Fund Tracker,” which goes out to some 17,000 readers.

I must admit that the beach setting, the views of Lanai and Molokai and the gentle warm ocean breezes, put my mind at ease and into a very relaxed state. I make some notes about my business and the marketing changes I want to implement.
After a relaxing and enjoyable hour or so “working” at the beach, Andrew and I head for home. We clean up and enjoy a delicious light dinner with my wife Terri. I go to sleep looking forward to another day at work in paradise.
